Delivering a 22-tonne catalyst during a storm
A freight forwarder tasked us with expediting the urgent delivery of a 22-tonne catalyst from the United States to an oil and gas facility in Chile. With ground handling challenges and stormy weather to contend with, our award-winning cargo team got straight to work on a time-critical charter solution.
Our Solution
Route: Texas > Miami > Punta Arenas
Aircraft: 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighter
To give us the best chance of getting the cargo in the air fast, we arranged for the catalyst to be trucked from Texas to Florida, where Miami International Airport acts as a major hub for cargo operations to Latin America.
After learning the airport in Chile wasn’t equipped to unload heavy loads from wide-body aircraft, we decided to split the cargo across two smaller planes. Our expert team arranged the charter of a 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighter to transport the most critical catalyst parts, while the client secured space for the rest of the consignment on a commercial flight.
On the planned arrival date, Chile was in the midst of a storm with winds blowing at speeds of over 97 kilometres per hour. Thinking quickly, we arranged a 48-hour layover in Argentina until the weather improved. The cargo was then able to land smoothly in Punta Arenas.
